week 3

Today I missed the morning lecture due to transport difficulties. Because of this I missed a lot of important information so I had to ask around and read the notes so I new exactly what I need to know to complete my tutorial class.

In the tutorial I completed a few exercises using the searchers ProQuest and MedaQuest. These were difficult to use in the beginning and took a while to get use to using. After playing around I found a few journals that will help me a lot in my essay for UPC0002.

Week 2

In today’s lecture, we covered a range of topics. These included; the different Microsoft applications available, such as Excel, Word, Database and PowerPoint. We looked at the different Internet browsers, such as, Firefox, Netscape (AOL), Internet Explorer and Safari.

Once we had covered the basics, we then learnt about the common computer tasks for example Word processing. This includes table formatting, editing spreadsheets viewing PDFS and emailing.

In the tutorial today we were given a few different tasks to complete. These included editing a written piece about computers in Microsoft word. Creating a table in excel, about how we send our day. We did this by creating a few formulas eg. =Sum(a1:a2) this creates a formula adding up the to cells. Also we created a pie chart displaying the weekly average of what we spent our time doing.

Overall, today’s lecture and tutorial has touched on the different Microsoft applications available, some common computer tasks and has shown me the new Vista program. As I have never used this I had to spend a bit of time playing around figuring out where things were.

Week One 29/2/08

In today’s lecture the main points that were covered include, the rules in the university and what this course involves, what we will be learning in this unit, the assignments and exams that we have for this assignment, and plagiarism (MUST NOT EVER plagiarise). There will be two major assignments for this unit these include a group assignment and an online on going journal.

In week ones tutorial we created an online blog. To create this we were given some instructions and we set out to create it. We also went through how to take a screen shot, edit it and save it as a JPG.

Overall this has been an interesting and informative week. I am finding it easier to settle in as the days go on.
